Never before has a sound meant to much. In between talking to Megan, the anesthetist, our doctor, and other members of the awesome all-woman team -- all the while poking my head over the top of the curtain -- came the greatest noise I've ever heard. It was high-pitched. It was a little squeaky. It was a little bit forced. And it was beautiful.
It was the sound of our little girl.
After a consult with Dr Rajah [who is brilliant, by the way] on Wednesday morning Megan underwent an unplanned, but not entirely unexpected, C-Section. We had less than two hours from the doc's visit until we went into the operating room, and another hour before we were done. It was the fastest three hours ever -- although the grannies say it was the longest they've ever sat through.
At 3.05pm, our little girl was born and screamed her first scream.
She was perfect, and so was her mom. Within moments we had her in our arms and our lives changed forever. She is honestly the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, with her mom in very close second. She's all I've thought about since she was born. I stare at the picture of her stuck up at my desk [yes, already!] all the time. I have to fight myself not to tell everyone I encounter about her.
Even when she cries -- which, thankfully, at this stage, isn't very often -- she's just lovely. I'm sure the novelty of the crying will wear off. But for now, I'll gladly hear it over and over again.
Welcome to the world, Alice May Savides.
