On Tuesday night, Alice celebrated her one-week "big girl bed" anniversary. It was a monumental occasion, with her finally moving out of the Moses basket in our room into the crib [i.e. big girl bed] in her room. How did she celebrate it? By sleeping absolutely beautifully. How did I celebrate? By sleeping absolutely terribly.
Why? Because Alice slept TOO well! She slept from 9pm to 11pm, woke for a quick feed and then slept until 5am. Me... well, I was up every hour to check on her. Don't blame me; it's scary when you're not hearing your child for such a long time -- especially when you're used to her waking up between six and eight times a night. I was terrified that something had happened.
Man, being a parent is hard.
If you've had this problem, what are your solutions? Because this running on empty gets a little much. It's been about two weeks of not sleeping particularly well; and with Megan and I both working full-time, it's pretty exhausting. Or maybe it's just something we have to learn to deal with. I don't know, but some advice would be amazing.
